Stoke on Trent Local Group

Our group will meet regularly so women with PCOS can get together and offer each other support.  We have a team of individuals who have expertise in areas of PCOS management and can answer any questions you may have about their services. They cannot provide medical advice but may have useful suggestions about what you can do to help cope with PCOS.

Who is it for?

The support group is open to the following people:

  • those who have been diagnosed with PCOS
  • those who think they have PCOS
  • those who know someone with PCOS, so partners, friends and family are all welcome.

Who will be there?

Along with members of Verity and women with, or think they have, PCOS the following individuals will be at the local group meetings:

Dr Tracy Nevatte, BSc(Hons) MSc PhD – Verity Research Officer

Tracy works with Professor O’Brien as a non-clinical researcher and has been Verity's research officer since 2008.  Having been diagnosed with PCOS at 18, Tracy understands the struggles women with the condition face and wanted to help by creating the local group for Stoke on Trent.

Professor Shaughn O'Brien, DSc MD FRCOG

Professor O’Brien has researched hormonal aspects of gynaecology for many years at Keele University.  This has particularly focused on menstrual disorders, the menopause and premenstrual syndrome.  In the past few years his attention has turned to the non-fertility aspects of PCOS and he is currently engaged on projects in this area. Additionally he has practised clinically in all of these areas in University of North Staffordshire and Nuffield Hospitals.

He is Chairman of The International Society for Premenstrual Disorders, Chairman of the British Society for Psychosomatic Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Andrology, a Member of Advisory Council of British Menopause Society  and a Member of the Council of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG); and has in the past, been the RCOG Vice President.

Lisa Doyle

Lisa is the director of BodyFitExpress, a ladies only gym near Waterworld at Festival Park.  Together with Professor O’Brien and Tracy Nevatte, Lisa has been supporting women with PCOS at her gym and has an unrivaled enthusiasm for helping women; she even managed to get Tracy to exercise!

BodyFit Express is a 30 minute circuit-based training system designed specifically for women.  The staff are Level 2 or 3 qualified fitness professionals who will help you achieve your goals, whether that is to lose weight, improve your health and fitness, or to tone up. Offering one-to-one assistance and advice, they review your programme and take your measurements every eight weeks to ensure you progress and stay motivated.

Members range from 18 to 88-year-olds and the gym has helped women suffering from conditions like osteoarthritis, PCOS and cardiovascular disease through to cancer and brain tumours as well as obesity.

The circuit is based on a combination of cardio-vascular machines, resistance (toning) machines and various free stations designed to use every large muscle group in your body. As you constantly move from one muscle group to the next – using a high number of repetitions to perform each exercise - your heart rate is constantly increased – burning more calories overall than maybe you would at a more conventional gym.

The safety of members is extremely important so a thorough pre-exercise health assessment is completed to ensure everyone will have a happy and rewarding experience getting fit and healthy.

Manager is Lisa Doyle.  Lisa is a Level 2 qualified fitness instructor and is also currently working towards a Level 3 qualification in personal training.  In order to maintain her own health, Lisa follows a healthy eating plan, and whenever she has half an hour to spare, she workouts in the gym too.

Sue Byatt

Laser Hair Removal is one of the services available at Clayton Cosmetic & Dental Centre where Sue is practice manager. It’s an effective hair reduction solution for PCOS symptoms that is simple and easy.

Our laser, the Soprano XL, is dedicated to hair removal and uses the latest ‘cooling’ technology allowing the treatment to be virtually pain free.

The Soprano XL is suitable for everyone. It’s safe for all skin types and most hair colours and can even be used on tanned skin.  The bottom line is, if you have hair where you really wish you didn’t, the Soprano XL is for you.

I would be delighted to book a Free Consultation with one of our experienced Therapists which includes a 'patch test' to determine your suitability for treatment. She will discuss the treatment in more detail and answer any further questions you may have.
