Stoke on Trent local group - 16th November 2011

Next meeting is Thursday 17th November 2011 from 6.30-8.30pm.

If you live in Stoke on Trent or surrounding area please come along to our local group meeting. Not only will you have the chance to talk to other women with PCOS there will be a life change consultant, local gym, laser hair removal specialist and a local private PCOS clinic available to answer your questions and to find out about the services they offer.

Take our PCOS study - 19th August 2011

We're excited to launch our first study into PCOS!!

The aim is to look at providing information regarding the level of knowledge, symptoms, service provision, impact and management of PCOS - which we will then communicate to media and scientific papers.

Please take 5 minutes to complete it when you can

The study is being done in partnership with Keele University, and is COMPLETELY anonymous.

Initial findings will be announced during PCOS Awareness Week, and there will also be a focus group - so if you're interested in maybe participating in that please drop an email to research@verity-pcos.org.uk

Please help spread the word, and if you know of anyone with PCOS that doesn't use the discussion board please pass on the link to them.

Charity ball raises £2000 - 4th September 2010

Verity was the charity recipient of a fundraising ball last night and were given a big cheque for £2000, you can read all about it and see the pictures from the night on our blog. Thanks to Karen and Tony Stevens for their hard work organising the event and their generosity!

Invitation to launch party - 22nd May 2010

Verity has been participating in a campaign to raise awareness of excess facial hair, which as you well know is something that many women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) suffer with! The We Can Face It campaign is kicking off with a launch party to which you're all invited, which will announce the results of a 1000 women survey about excess facial hair.

I do hope many of you can make it and help support the campaign which will raise awareness of not just excess hair but also importantly of PCOS. There'll be celebrities including Dr Dawn Harper (Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies), Mica Paris (soul singer and TV presenter) and Jason Gardiner (style guru from ITV’s This Morning), makeovers, professional photo shoots, style advice, nibbles and just general good conversation with loads of other women that understand what we go through!

We're now blogging - 3rd October 2009

Verity, the UK charity for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is now blogging... at last. It's been a long time coming.

I hope you'll all get involved, comment lots, share links, opinions and anything else you want to get off your chest! We'll be blogging about all things PCOS; latest research, things going on at Verity, life as a trustee and down the line we'll be inviting guest bloggers who have a special interest in PCOS to share tips and tricks and news.

The Reading conference has moved from 03 October and will now be held on the 27th of March 2010. The agenda is in the process of being finalised, and will be published on the website very soon.

BBC News Health and BBC Radio 2 (listen online) discuss the new report by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists(RCOG) that excess hair is most often caused by an underlying endocrine disorder, which 80% of the time is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

Free PCOS talk at RCOG - 20th February 2009

There will be a free talk on "Living with PCOS" at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists at 6.30pm on Thursday 12 March.

The talk will be by leading PCOS specialist and Verity medical advisor Professor Adam Balen and there will be a whole hour dedicated to Q&A.

Handmade christmas cards! - 20th November 2008

We have had a lovely and crafty volunteer offer to make us charity cards to sell for fundraising. ALL the proceeds come directly to Verity, and we are starting out with christmas cards... They really are beautiful and very high quality!

Scheduled site maintenance - 13th November 2008

Hi All,

As I'm sure many of you know, we've had a lot of site stability issues over the last year. Well, I'm glad to tell you that we hunted around, and we have found a great new hosting company who has 24x7 support and guaranteed 99.9% site up-time. Great news!

To move to the new host, we need to take down the site and discussion board for a few hours on Friday afternoon. This will happen at approximately 2pm, and it should only be down for about three hours or so - but we will keep you all updated as we go.

If you follow us on Twitter, or are a member of Verity's Facebook group then we will notify you as soon as the site goes back up.

Sometimes these things don't quite go to plan, and our discussion board is very big and has to be moved slowly and carefully to ensure we don't lose any data. So, if you aren't able to see the site / board after a few hours, please don't panic. Bare with us - it will be rectified as soon as possible.

Wanted: In Touch Editor - 11th November 2008

Sadly, Alison Thomas our Editor for In Touch over the last four issues has to leave us. We are therefore in the market for a new Editor! If you have editorial experience and have time and dedication to give to Verity, then we would dearly love to hear from you. Please email chair@verity-pcos.org.uk with some background information about yourself and your level of experience and time to offer.

Being the Editor of In Touch is a demanding position, and although it only comes out twice a year it's a year round job that requires you to be 'on the ball' and dedicated. You will have the support of the rest of the board of Trustees, along with Sarah Miles who has worked with Alison on the last four issues and will continue on in a supportive role.

Dorset local group - 9th June 2008

Harmed by laser? - 6th June 2008

Last month, the government published plans to deregulate cosmetic laser procedures, such as laser hair removal and treatments for skin conditions. Consumer organisation Which? are planning to respond to the government's plans and want to use people's experiences to make sure that the government has fully considered any future problems if this industry is not monitored by a government body.

You can share your opinion on the Verity discussion board, and if you have been harmed by laser treatment in the past, then keep reading...

There is also an e-petition that those who are opposed to the redegulation of cosmetic laser treatment can sign on the 10 Downing St website.
