DECIDING THE FINAL 10 RESEARCH PRIORITIES FOR PCOS

On 17 October 2025 we held the final JLA Priority Setting Partnership workshop at Aston University to agree the UK Top 10 PCOS Research Priorities. People with lived experience and healthcare professionals worked side by side, using a transparent, facilitated process to reach consensus. The day brought together a wide mix of ages, ethnicities and clinical disciplines, ensuring the outcome reflects real needs across the life course.

Quick Facts
  • Date and venue: 17 October 2025, Aston University in Birmgingham
  • Participants: 13 People with PCOS from across the UK, reflecting a range of ages, ethnicities and experiences. 12 clinicians across endocrinology, gynaecology and fertility, dermatology, dietetics, nursing, psychology and primary care.  Supported by JLA advisers and observers
  • Method: small-group ranking, plenary discussion, and final consensus using JLA facilitation
  • Outcome: the agreed Top 10 PCOS Research Priorities, drawn from 27 summary questions shortlisted from two national surveys

How the day worked
  • Three separate groups of similar make-up reviewed the 27 summary questions and ranked them based on importance and impact from their own personal perspective

  • After a break, those rankings were reconciled and the 27 questions were laid out in groupings of high / medium / low priority
  • Groups were then asked to order the questions in a consensus discussion and considering different perspectives and lived experiences
  • A final round established the Top 10 by consensus, with every voice heard and recorded

What we agreed
  • The final Top 10 PCOS Research Priorities for the UK
  • A commitment to share the priorities widely with funders, researchers, clinicians and policymakers
Next steps for dissemination, publications and collaboration

Why it matters
  • The workshop gave equal weight to lived experience and professional expertise
  • The Top 10 focuses future research on questions most likely to improve diagnosis, care pathways, mental health support, equity and access to effective treatments
  • A clear, consensus agenda helps funders and research teams act faster and with confidence

Thank You
  • To everyone who took part in the surveys, evidence checking and this final workshop
  • To our Core and Steering Groups, independent JLA Chair and advisers, and partner organisations
