Overwhelmingly, those with PCOS feel that they know more about PCOS than the Dr they are seeing (75%!). You also rate the NHS for PCOS care and management a very low 2 out of 10. This is not good enough, and we can't wait on the system to change.
So, Verity has created an evidenced-based course to help change this - but we need your help. I am writing as a patient with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition that affects around 1 in 8 women in the UK — and with women making up 51% of the population, this represents a significant and growing challenge for general practice.
Despite its prevalence, PCOS is complex, lifelong, and often misunderstood. It affects women from adolescence through to menopause and beyond, with implications for fertility, metabolic health, cardiovascular risk, mental health, and overall quality of life. A recent survey by Verity, the UK’s leading PCOS charity, revealed that:
• Women rate NHS care for PCOS just 2 out of 10
• 75% of patients feel they are the most informed person in the room during a GP appointment
• Many report feeling dismissed, unsupported, or left to self-manage a life-altering condition
I’m writing to share an important training opportunity that Verity is running that I hope your practice will consider:
