PCOS AWARENESS month
Verity launched PCOS Awareness Week in November 2010. Ten years on and our week has become a month in line with our US and international counterparts. Our aim is to simply raise awareness of PCOS, educate others about the condition and hopefully raise a little money so we can continue providing conferences, information and support.
It’s pretty hard to understand PCOS unless you have it or know someone that does. Although it's estimated that 1 in 10 women of reproductive age have PCOS, it’s so easy to feel isolated or that no one else understands what you are going through. It's also estimated that 70% of those with the condition don't know they have it, and you can't treat and manage what you don't know you have. Awareness month is our chance to make some noise, support each other and spread the word so others can get diagnosed too. As a volunteer organisation we rely on our community to help us do this and there are lots of ways to get involved:
You can choose something that takes an hour, a day or the whole month. Whatever you choose is fine. You will be raising the profile of PCOS, supporting a small volunteer run charity and maybe helping us raise some much needed funds to continue our work. You will make a massive difference whatever you choose to do and however you choose to do it.
