WHAT TO DO IN CARDIFF

If you are coming for the Verity conference why not make a weekend of it and enjoy some time in the Welsh Capital?

Our Trustee Caroline having lived there throughout university can tell you all her favourite places in the capital of Cymru!
  • For any avid Dr Who or Torchwood fans there is the Dr Who exhibition in the Red Dragon Centre in Cardiff Bay as well as many sights to spot such as the entrance to Torchwood Institute.  Cardiff has become a key location for many tv and films so wander around the university campus and the castle to see what you recognise
  • Like your sport - well why not send your partner around the Millennium Stadium during the conference if they are not joining you.  Having worked there throughout University I do believe it is one of the finest Rugby Stadiums in the world.  Tours are a great way to see everything from the changing rooms to the giddy heights of the top of the stands
  • Cardiff Bay - Over the last decade Cardiff Bay has been regenerated and is fantastic on a sunny day.  Take a break in Mermaid Quay with many fantastic eateries (Cawalder ice-cream shop is a must!)
  • Alternatively, there is the Roald Dahl church and Techniquest for any little ones
  • Shops - St David's Centre 2 opened back a few years ago with all the usual high street chains but take a look around the arcades off St Mary Street for individual shops
  • Whilst technically not PCOS friendly, if you can try some traditional welsh cakes or Brains Bitter
  • Fancy some country air the next day, about 25 minutes out of Cardiff and you are at the start of the valleys and the beautiful Castell Coch which has to be one of the most fairytale castles in the land

ACCOMMODATION

The Marriott has competitive rates for the weekend. If you would like to stay in Cardiff, most of the City Centre hotels are within a few minutes walking distance from the Marriott. The Maldron often does good deals or any of those in Cardiff Bay (a short taxi ride away from the venue). Please note if you want a quiet night then avoid any hotel in or immediately around St Mary Street as this is the main bar and club area.
